It might not seem like it, but spring is coming, and it will be here sooner than you might expect. It’s time to make some springtime plans! Think about planting flowers, doing spring cleaning, and scheduling maintenance.

Don’t forget about your plumbing! We’ve got some suggestions for getting ahead of schedule. This spring plumbing checklist will help to make sure you’ll be ready.

1. Pay Attention to Your Indoor Plumbing

In the dull and tiring blur of a long-lasting winter, it’s easy to let things slide. Now’s the time to start sharpening your ears and eyes so you can recognize problems before they get any worse! What’s been going on with your home’s plumbing? Make note of any concerns.

Are any faucets drippy? Are any sinks, showers, or tubs slow to drain? Is a toilet struggling to flush, or running too much afterward? Do you have any new water stains on your walls, suspicious moldy areas, excess humidity, or cracks in your foundation which could indicate a sneaky leak somewhere in your home? Jot down anything that catches your attention.

2. Check on Your Outdoor Plumbing

Once the weather is warm enough to safely run your outdoor spigots without risking frozen pipes, get them turned on and make sure they turn off completely. Check for leaks in any hardware on your outdoor plumbing or in your hoses or connectors. Don’t forget to take a look at your water meter. Are you using more than you think you should? Again, make note of your concerns.

Also, your sewer pipe runs through your yard, connecting all the drains in your home to the municipal sewer line. Troubles with this pipe can create all sorts of mayhem in the house. But some of the signs can only be spotted outdoors. Assess your yard for soggy spots, sewage smells, or places where the grass is oddly well-fertilized and green. That’s not a good sign!

3. Schedule Service

It can be easy to forget — until you suddenly end up in a cold shower — but your water heater is supposed to have a maintenance appointment every year. Without this routine service, sediment and mineral scaling from your water will build up, causing the water heater to struggle. Springtime is the perfect season to have this maintenance performed.

While you’re at it, talk with your plumber about the other concerns you’ve noted around the house. It’s good to plan ahead. You might be able to have water heater maintenance, drain cleaning, and leak detection all done on the same day, leaving you confident and unconcerned about your plumbing as spring arrives.

Our team is at the ready! Whether you need routine maintenance, backflow prevention, repiping, a water treatment system, help with your sump pump, or something else, you can count on us to care for your plumbing in Blythewood, SC.
